The internet according to google, is a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. It has no sole inventor and can be traced back as far as 50 years, when the US used it as a government weapon in the cold war. After the Soviet Union launched the first satellite ‘Sputnik’ into space, many Americans began to panic. While to satellite did not do much, many Americans began to take science and technology more seriously. Scientists and the military became concerned about what might happen if the Soviet Union attacked the nation’s telephone system. J.C.R Licklider, a scientist from M.I.T, thought of creating a “galactic network” of computers that could communicate with one another in 1962. In 1965, another M.I.T scientist created a way of sending information from one computer to another. He called this process “Packet switching.” Around a decade later, Vinton Cerf, a computer scientist, developed a way for all computers to communicate with each other on all the mini networks. The Worldwide Web is a is a collection of websites or web pages stored in web servers and connected to local computers through the internet (“What Is WWW: World Wide Web - Javatpoint.) The Worldwide Web was invented by British scientist Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. It was first created so that scientists could share information about their research and findings with each other (Fischels, Josie. “A Look Back at the Very First Website Ever Launched, 30 Years Later.” NPR, NPR, 6 Aug. 2021.) We use the Worldwide Web for all sorts of things now.

While both the Internet and Worldwide Web are different, they are used together. You can use the internet without using the Worldwide Web, but not vice versa. The internet is the system that connects computer networks together. The Worldwide web is used to organize information on the internet (Stegner, Ben. “What's the Difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web?” MUO, 9 Aug. 2021.)

The first website was created on August 6, 1991. It was created by Tim Berners-Lee and meant to be used to teach people how to create web pages and learn about hypertext. It is still running today, the URL is, "http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html.” (Grandoni, Dino. “21 Years Later: World's First Website Still Online.” HuffPost, HuffPost, 7 Dec. 2017.)

Hedy Lamarr (real name Hedwig Eva Kiesler) was the woman who created the technology that was the foundation of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Lamarr was a world-famous actress who was also a self-taught engineer. (Attarbashi, Brian Hadi. “Hedy Lamarr: The Mother of Wireless Technology.” RSS.) She has a song written about her called, “This is a song for Hedy Lamarr” by Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp.

Bluetooth was developed in the 1990s by Ericsson. Bluetooth was named after a Scandinavian king named Harald Gormsson. Gormsson was nicknamed “Bluetooth” because of his dead blue tooth. The Bluetooth symbol is a combination of the runes ᚼ and ᛒ, which are Harald’s initials (Peter. “Flashback: A Brief History of Bluetooth.” GSMArena.com, GSMArena, 16 May 2021.)

Vic Hayes is often regarded as the father of Wi-Fi. He started working on Wi-Fi in 1974. (Admin. “The History of WIFI: 1971 to Today.” CableFree, 18 May 2017.) While some originally thought Wi-Fi stood for “Wireless fidelity,” the term Wi-Fi does not stand for anything at all. “Wi-Fi” was just a catchy name so that wi-fi would catch on.
